Kasonde Bowa holds the BSc(Medical Science) from the University of Zambia in 1988 and the MBChB from the university of Zambia school of Medicine in 1990. He did his postgraduate training in Scotland and the United Kingdom. He was BJUI and SIU fellow at the Institute of Urology and Nephrology in London. He was the international guest scholar of the American college of Surgeons in urology in 2004. He is a Fellow of the Royal college of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow (FRCS Glasgow). .He is also a Fellow of the American College of   Surgeons in Urology (FACS)2006.  In addition he holds the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa(FCS) in Urology 2007 (Rahima Dawood Prize). He also holds the Masters of Medicine in Surgery from the University of Zambia 2000 (Surgical Society of Zambia prize).On top of  his clinical qualifications, he has a Master of science(MSc) degree in Anatomy from the University of Glasgow 1994, and the Masters in Public Health (MPH)from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine 2012.

 

He has practiced Urology for over 17 years and has been a Consultant Urologist  at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia for over 10 years. He  currently practices at the Ndola Teaching Hospital and the Arthur Davison Children’s hospital in Ndola Zambia, where he has been in practice for over 5years.

 

Prof Bowa is an academic. He has been Assistant Dean at the University of Zambia for over  6years and was the founding Dean of the Copperbelt University School of Medicine since 2011. He has been external examiner at the Medical College of Malawi, the University of Namibia School of Medicine and the University of Zambia School of Medicine. His area of research in Urology has been in tropical urology, Male Circumcision  and Onco-urology. He has received the Zambia Medical Association, national award for outstanding contribution to the medicine in 2015, from the president of Zambia. He was also awarded the Copperbelt University award for outstanding contribution to research by the Minister of Education of Zambia  in 2013.

 

 He is Professor of  Urology at the Copperbelt University  (CBU SOM) and Consultant Urologist at the Ndola Teaching Hospital and the Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital. He has an RG score of 23.31, has over 66 peer reviewed publications, 2 books and 5 book chapters. He has received over  10 local, regional and international awards. He has done over 50 podium presentations at local, regional and international conferences. He has been a consultant for WHO,UNFPA,SADC,SAT and UNICEF. He is the current southern regional representative for PAUSA.
